Usez is lovely city located less than 15 miles to the North of Nimes. It is great destination for a day trip or city breakaway.
A must see is the local market that is surprisingly busy for a city of less than 9000 inhabitants. Better go there early in the morning because later it is crowded and it will take you hours to poke through the people.
Sightseeing is not that obligatory: you can see traditional anthropological relics such as cathedral that was built and destroyed many times, medieval chapels and traces of passed kings and glory.
What to do around? Susan Avison recommends walking. Go to Uzès to Collias or Le Castellas. Read her walking tips here:

You can combine your vacation in Marseille or Nimes with a day trip to Uzes. For sure you’ll love its typical French atmosphere!
