Here we have 12 useful travel tips for all international travelers as told by Rick Seaney. To read Rick’s full article follow the link that you’ll find at the end of this post.
- Know your international season: there are destinations that are seasonal, this means that almost all people prefer to visit them in certain period of the year, depending on this there are periods when the prices are $1000 or more higher!
- Anticipate high ticket taxes: believe it or not, there are so many taxes that you pay without even know it. Transiting through one airport instead of another can save you money.
- Fly big-city to big-city: the competition in bigger cities force them to be more flexible in htier price offers. The only problem is how you can reach the big city and where to park your car for the next few days while you’re away.
- Check out new routes and promotions: usually companies make new routes popular by offering competitive prices, another tool they use is the promotions, especially if they have a lot of seats available, last minute offers and so on.
- Look at low-cost transatlantic airlines: this will be even more useful next year; in march 2008 the Open Skies agreement will allow more low-cost airlines to fly overseas.
- In Europe, check out European domestic airlines: there are many low cost European airlines, you can save big with some of them but experience some inconveniences (time of flight, in-flight service, bigger baggage fees)
- Don’t rule out international carriers: some airlines like British Airways offer some useful additional service at no cost (almost).
- Fly all-business class jets: their prices are more and more competitive and in some cases it results that it’s better to fly business instead of low-cost.
- Currency sticker shock ahead: you can get advantage of the weak dollar and shop cheaper on websites that have their prices in USD. Unfortunately the euro is absolute shock for the unprepared traveler, because prices currently are higher in euro.
- Use frequent flyer miles for your European trip: (I would add: always, not only European) I believe all of you already know how to get advantage of the frequent flyer programs, just plan early and carefully, if you are not sure you can always contact the company and ask.
- Let technology do the work for you! Online booking and e-tickets are saving not only your time, but your money too; you are not paying extra for the travel agent’s service, the paper ticket or the delivery, the process is easy and enjoyable.
