Chester is one of the best cities in UK. It is small but very lively, the whole atmosphere is very historical but trendy at the same time.
The city is less than one hour drive from Liverpool and it is great weekend escape.
The obligatory sightseeing tour in Chester includes:
- Chester Cathedral (£3 get you in the time machine, the cathedral dates back to the 16th c., see more here: www.chestercathedral.com)
- Roman ruins (ruins are everywhere and are open to public, date back to 2-4 c.)
- Chester Amphitheater (the largest uncovered amphitheatre in the UK … but there is a website where you can donate money and help bring it to surface: www.chester.gov.uk/amphitheatre/)
Not so popular but definitely interesting are:
- Boating along the River Dee (even if you don’t feel like exerting yourself, you can take tourist boat; the benefit is that it also includes the sightseeing lecture)
- Chester Racecourse (real horseracing for people with passion for sports; ticket prices vary but you can walk around and enjoy the atmosphere for free; see when the next race is here: www.chester-races.co.uk)
