Short Historical Flashback
Before Brasilia was constructed capital of Brazil was Rio de Janeiro. In 1960 the capital was moved to the central parts of the country with the idea to develop not only the coastal area but to give a push and integrate other regions of the country.
The whole city was constructed in less than four years. The managing urban planner was Lucio Costa. Undoubtedly he left unique trace in architectural history not only because of the short period of the construction but also because of the whole city plan. After Brasilia was build its concepts reflected many of modern 20th century cities.
When seen from above the city outlines look like airplane. The original idea was shape of a cross that symbolizes the possession.
When the city became capital there were less than 150 000 inhabitants; today some 50 years later there live more than two million and still this does not have negative effect on the utility sector and the urban area.
