- Full name: The Republic of Ireland (Irish: Éire or Poblacht na hÉireann)
- It constitutes the main portion of (the island of) Ireland, and is bounded to the northeast by Northern Ireland (Irish: Tuaisceart na hÉireann) which is part of the United Kingdom.
- Ireland is not part of United Kingdom. It is separate country with its own government and laws. Adding Ireland to UK will not make you friends with local people.
- Avoid discussions on topics such as independence, Northern Ireland and the Republic and the like. Leave religious differences and political views behind and focus on today.
- When accepting gifts it is polite to say “No really you shouldn’t”.
- When someone says “thank you” to you, you should say “It was nothing” or “Not at all” (yes, it might have been very hard for you do do it, but that’s the etiquette)
- Ireland is smoke free. Any person found guilty of breaching the ban on smoking in public places is subject to a fine of up to €3000 (more than $4500). Most larger bars and cafés have covered outdoor smoking area.
