CAT stands for City Airport Train, one of hte best options to get to Vienna city center for no time from the airport. Rates can be found on CAT’s official website: http://www.cityairporttrain.com/ but here is what my friends and I did: when you walk out of the airport, go to the train and talk to any of the CAT girls, they hang around the CAT ticket machines and can help you a lot especially if you are not individual traveler and you are not sure where is your hotel.
CAT trains are very clean and well organized. They have two stops: airport and the city center (though not the heart of the city, but still, quite near all major sights. The vehicles are well designed with special spaces for big luggage and two-storey wagons. You can use them in both directions and in addition you can have early check in at their station in Vienna. Train can be combined with special CAT taxi which can pick you or drop you whenever you want.
We were a group of three and our hotel was quite far from the airport so we talked to one of the CAT girls and for 28 EUR we got ticket for the train and then we changed to car. She wrote our hotel address on the ticket so we didn’t need to explain anything. After we get off on the train station we went to CAT desk and in no time we had a driver. Our driver barely spoke English but was really friendly and while we were passing the city he was pointing the sights we were passing by: palaces, museums, theaters, universities and so on.
