First of all, Croatia is awesome and Split is definitely one if its finest pearls. It is picturesque, romantic and yes, it is true, it is a shoe shop paradise. Almost every second shop is for footwear in all colors, models and sizes. If you love shopping as much as I do, you will love it!

The city is not too big but in summer season there are definitely more than 250.000 people including the tourists. The atmosphere is calm and easy-going: beach, bars, shopping and friendly people.

It is said that Split is one of the sunniest places in Europe.

Why to go there?
Except for the beach part which is definitely a must-do, sightseeing is rich in impressions. There are Roman walls from 3-4 c. AD and especially Diocletian’s Palace built by limestone and beautiful marble will take you out of this time and dimension.

If you are not after the history but looking for adventures, you can book a boat trip and go deeper inside the Adriatic. There are various travel programs for a day in the sea, often including a delicious meal on any of the islands in this area (usually Brac Island, Hvar).

Last, but not least, Split’s nightlife is cool. There are thousands of bars, clubs and pubs. There are so many funny and friendly young people, that it is hard to resist to party all night long.

How to get there?
Split’s airport is about 25 kilometers from the city. Its international code is SPU. In summer the traffic is pretty heavy and there are charter flights from different countries. Once landed there are regular bus lines and taxis which ca get you to the city.

Need a bed?
Finding a bed is easy: there are plenty of hotel offerings: from luxury to budget. If you are on a tight budget you can also look around the central bus station or the ferry terminal and you will notice many people who offer rooms in their homes. Prices can be bargained and if you are lucky, your hostess can even prepare fantastic home made Croatian breakfasts for you.

Useful
Local currency is kuna (HRK), but euros and dollars are accepted almost everywhere. There are many places for money exchange too.
