The video from the previous post reminded me of my stay in EastSide hostel in Budapest. It lasted exactly 20 minutes and was one of the most miserable hostel experiences ever.

There were three of us that in a rainy day get off the boat in Budapest and after not-so-healthy late lunch in Subway headed to the hostel. We had our reservations made through HostelWorld for about 3 weeks or so and we were pretty confident that we won’t have any problems with the reservations because in addition HostelWorld charged us some money for the reservation. Quite naiive!

When the elevator door opened and we proceeded to the apartment where EastSide Hostel was supposed to be, a skinny guy met us and said that he is aware of our reservation and he is really sorry, but there is no place for us. They got other clients, the hostel owner who allowed their stay the same day left to Greece and he could hardly help us with accommodation. It was getting dark outside and the situation was really frustrating.

We insisted to find a place for us plus to refund the money that we paid for the reservation and finally he managed to find a hotel that was absolutely far from that location and in addition it cost triple the price we estimated.

No matter the bad experience with EastSide Hostel Budapest remains one of the most attractive cities in Europe.
