To get to the city from Schiphol one can take the train.

The ticket costs 3.60 euro and can be bought from the machines in the airport and the hall after the gates. There are 3 options for this: card (credit), card (Maestro) and cash (coins).

Amsterdam.info prepared me for the fact that the machines do not have English menus so when I landed and collected my luggage I headed to the nearest machine to buy a ticket.

I didn’t have coins so I tried with my Visa but somehow the system never worked and I didn’t receive the tickets! Still, when a few days later I checked my card I noted that the machine billed me!

Outside the airport there are a few machines that work with coins and even some of them are instructed to go directly to the city Central Train Station.
