Earlier this year, I wrote a column giving 12 tips for a better flight. At the end, I asked for your tips. I received thousands of responses and many great tips. The tips varied from interesting and common-sense to creative and funny. Here are some of the best.

General travel advice

  • Select suitcases in specific colors that will help you recognize them. Be careful when you fill in you markers and always be sure to write down telephone number that you have with you. Mobiles these days work better than any fixed telephone line and in addition when you travel abroad this will help you be found.
  • Do no choose too big suitcases. There are two reasons for this. The first one is that these are heavy and sometimes more heavy than their content. The second one is purely psychological and probably more typical for women: when you have a big bag, you’re always tempted to fill it to the limit.
  • Recharge all your batteries dor mp3 playes, cameras, laptops and other electronics
  • If your fellow passenger doesn’t stop talking even if you pretend that you’re sleeping, do not afraid to be rude and simply load your favorite music and try to get some sleep
  • Buy eyemask and bring it in your cabin luggage. Use it.
  • Consider which is more cost effective and easy: to go to the airport by cab or your own car. If your trip lasts longer, is the parking paid or free of charge.
  • If you go to the airport by car, make note where you parked and keep it on secure place. It sometimes takes us less than a dinner time to remember where we left the car so imagine this situation after a week or two.
  • Check airport rules before leaving and make sure that you won’t have banned liquids or goods in your handbag.
  • If you do not travel alone try to cross-pack with your companion. Sometimes a pair of jeans and t-shirt can save lives when you stay stuck and with no luggage at the airport.
  • Pack carefully. I usually put things in bags in my suitcase. That allows me to get faster orientation in my luggage and easily to get in/out things from it. (Especially when I have to rearrange due to weight restrictions.)
