Recently Jaunted.com published their list of top bars in Manhattan. We decided to check what the buzz is and are they really as cool as the legends say.
Whistlin’ Dixie’s Texas Tavern
Location714 11th Ave.
(@ 51st St.)
www.dixiestexastavern.com
The bar opened doors a few months ago in June and immediately lured the true alcohol lovers with wide selection of drinks and especially tequila. Whistlin’ Dixie’s Texas Tavern claims to be a southern-style bar, but it has something for everyone. The top offers include Sin Sundays – all exotic dancers drink free, Mexicano Mondays – Coronas cost only $3 or TGI Ef’N Fridays - $10 Unlimited Margaritas. Of course my favorite is the offer for beer pong on Saturday. Check what’s on tonight and go straight to Dixie’s.
Izakaya Ten
207 10th Ave.
This Japanese hip pub with typical dishes like for example ankimo (made of monkfish liver). Some people say that it’s more jazzy than Japanese but the overall feedback is positive. The good news comes with the offer of 3 sakes for $6 with edamame thrown in gratis or $20 off the shochu bottles.
Continental NYC
25 3rd Avenue (between St. Marks Place & 9th St.)
www.continentalnyc.com
Continental rocks the block with power pop, punk, hard core and indie rock. Sure, there are people who are still missing “old times” and say that today the club is not the same. Whatever. The place is really cheap compared to other not-so-legendary places. Everybody’s all time favorite offer is 5 shots for $10 but if you feel like experimenting, try the $1 beer.
Lure Fishbar
142 Mercer St
www.lurefishbar.com
Lure is a little pretentious but still nice surprise. Oyster Shooters (with vodka and spicy bloody mary mix) are just $5, as well as all wines of the day. All the cocktails cost $6 and actually the cocktail list consist of just a few but elite options: Champagne Bellini, Dark&Stormy, Watermelon Martini and Grapefruit Margarita.
Satsko
245 Eldridge Street
www.satsko.com
Japan-fusion but not sushi is what recapitulates Satsko. Still there you can see wide-spread Chinese pattern fabrics. Skipping the topic of interior design, their dishes are absolutely delicious and everybody knows the host Warren. Thursdays after 10pm, anyone who can take him “Fastest Gullet in the East” Bayani in a bombing duel drinks free house sake the rest of the night.
