This is probably the most popular question among divers, Cozumel or Cancun, since both have extremely good reputation. Best time to go to there is from November to December when it’s not too crowded with tourists and backpackers.
Cozumel
Is an island located to the east OF the Yucatan Peninsula. It is the most popular Mexican island on the Caribbean. It is also referred as Ah-Cuzamil-Peten which is translated as the Island of Swallows. Most people recommend it especially for drift diving and more relaxing program in the off hours (because logically you won’t spend all the time in the water though you may want to)
Cancun
Is the largest city ON the Yucatan Peninsula. It is more populated and popular among the mainstream tourist. Best time to go diving is to select a shop that leaves later, after 10:30. This way you’ll avoid meeting the morning rush of 8 am divers and you’ll enjoy your diving. The second largest reef in the world is located to the south-west of Cancun Island and here is great place for scuba diving.
PADI
If you’re after a Padi certificate, in both places you can apply for one. What is PADI? That’s Professional Association of Diving Instructors (PADI), the world’s largest recreational diving membership and diver training organization. The system is composed of modules and courses range from entry levels to master scuba divers.
To get there you can use the local Cozumel Municipal Airport (CZM) or alternatively you can take a flight to Cancun International Airport (CUN) and then travel to the island.
