Located near Cancun, Isla Mujeres (Island of Women) was extremely popular a few decades ago. Now the place is calm but still is in the focus of the world map. Isla Mujeres is quiet at night but it’s great for a day trip.

Here are a few ideas what to do there:
- Go to Hacienda Mundaca: big beautiful gardens and cute little zoo (monkeys, birds, crocodiles, pythons and jaguar). Bring your anti-mosquito sprays and nets. Mozquito’s bites are for free. Entrance to the zoo is $10 pesos.

- See giant sea turtles in the Turtle farm located on Sac Bajo. Did you know that sea turtles were killed for their meat and shells? Today they’re saved. They lay tier eggs from May to September and you can enjoy their company for $30 pesos

- Go fishing on Playa Paraiso. The best time for this is between April and August. You can catch mahi mahi, marlin or sailfish. If you do not make any difference between the species, leave the fishing aside and go to have fresh tasty fish-dish in one of the many restaurants in the area.

Last but not least Isla Mujeres’ location makes it first stop destination for many Cuban immigrants who are trying to escape from Cuba. Sure, this doesn’t affect the fun or safety on the island. To me, it even makes it more exciting: watch out in the sea, look who’s coming?
